The Sandwich Society was formed in 1968 to protect the environmenty of our Medieval Town and its surroundings - so whilst looking lovingly at Sandwich's past, concerns itself primarily with its present and future. Its aims as set out on the back of the Newsletter Magazine, are to reveal our heritage and protect and enhance the environment of our historic town and the surrounding area.

We have been able to substantially help local appeals such as the St Clement's Church Restoration Fund, the Sandwich Youth Club, the Museum, Sandwich Festival and sundry exhibitions and other local projects.

We mounted for several years a 'Sites & Sights of Sandwich Exhibition' in the Library & St Peter's Church.

Used as a Consultative body by Town, District and Kent County Councils together with the Police and other public authorities we work closely with them and sometimes alone.

The Sandwich Society initiated a 'Love Sandwich don't litter Campaign' and regularly collected the litter in the town and local walks. We also started the first Information Centre for the town in the porch of St Peter's Church and manned it handing over when Dover District Council instituted an official Information Centre now housed in the Guildhall.

Anyone is welcome to join and the minimum subscription is £5 per annum.
