Welcome
AN INTRODUCTION TO THIS SITE
1 WELCOME to the Sandwich Site. This site has been commissioned by Sandwich Town Council to provide a service for visitors and community by publicising and promoting this exquisite medieval town on the web, and producing all kinds of useful information. This site aims to be an ever increasing resource of information and views of this once important cinque port and later market town. Enjoy.
2 NAVIGATION: to find your way around the site we have provided a simple and consistent system. On the left of every page you will find the same 7 buttons arranged vertically - these are the main sections of the site and are always available to the browser. When one of these buttons is clicked the relevant opening page appears with a set of buttons at the top arranged horizontally, these represent subsections of the section clicked. All clickable elements appear thusly as blue and underlined and when clicked will open new pages within the main section selected. Some buttons are coloured thusly and not underlined: these represent subsections that are not yet complete but are coming in later editions of the site; for this reason they are not clickable. This system has been maintained throughout the site, whereupon wherever one finds a blue underlined element it means it is clickable and produces a new page. Finally, when a page needs to be scrolled a lot to reveal its total contents (for example in longish articles or descriptions), buttons will be provided to transport back to the top of the page in order to facilitate further access to the navigation system.
3 MAIN SECTIONS: these are mainly self-explanatory... For Visitors is a collection of pages aimed at supplying visitors and tourist with relevant and interesting information concerning the town; Community is a section concerned with details of people, organisations and life within this community and promises to evolve hopefully into a communal resource and meeting place; Studies is for students of the town's history, geography, architecture etc, with articles culled from various sources - this will become an ongoing archive; the Links Page(s) is an annotated list of links to other relevant web sites - this too will grow and become richer; Maps is a section relevant to the others and will enable those unused to the initially confusing web of small streets in the town to navigate with ease and find the interesting spots and places to relax and refresh; Events&News is equally relevant to both visitors and residents and aims to provide information and news concerning events and stories occurring within the town.
4 ENTRIES: If any individual, organisation, group or business in/of Sandwich wants an entry made on this site, e.g., publicising an event or adding some relevant information, etc, could they please email Michael Pennamacoor (pennamacoor@enterprise.net) in the first instance, describing the nature of the entry wanted, and he will respond. Thankyou.
